RAAF World War Two Officers Mess Dress
This is a Mess Jacket worn by a Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Medical Officer with the rank of Group Captain.
The RAAF Officers side cap is of fine dark wool with two small black RAAF embossed Bakelite buttons and the RAAF pattern Officers Kings Crown and Eagle on the left of the cap.
The Mess Jacket is of fine dark RAAF blue melton cloth with large light blue silk lapels. The two epaulets have three gold bands and crown and eagle devices each that indicates the wearer had attained the rank of Group Captain, with red wool in between these bands indicating Medical Officer.
Gilt buttons with embossed Kings Crown and RAAF Eagle decorate the front of the jacket.
A white dinner shirt and black tie complements the jacket.
Miniatures worn on the left side of the Mess Jacket indicate service in the Australian Light Horse during the First World War prior to joining the RAAF as a Medical Officer.
